Welcome to Vision For Shaftesbury, a project that asks the question: ‘What does this community want for Shaftesbury in 20 years’ time?’. The project is supported by a voluntary group, the Community Vision Group, that aims to discover and champion the community's own vision of what living in the Shaftesbury area could be like.  The vision will be shared with local government and other agencies to ensure the views of the community influence their decision-making.

The Community Vision Group aims to be transparent in its approach and this website serves as an accessible virtual filing cabinet for documentation generated as the project proceeds.

Summer 2024: We're at the 'Preparation' stage of Phase 1: continuing to build the capacity the project will need. Click on the relevant box below for more information about who's become involved and their activities in stages 1 & 2.

Phase 1

Establish an enabling group with the governance, capacity, contacts and resources needed.

Surveys and events will collect views from the community.

Review and analyse replies: identify key themes, questions and future challenges.

Phase 2

Design information, discussion and decision-making sessions for 'People's Panel' focused on key questions.

From volunteers, select a Panel that is inclusive, representing this community.

Provide speakers representing opposing views, facilitate Panel discussions and decisions.

Produce report on the vision: include Panel's recommendations and details of the process.

Phase 3

Make the report available to town and Dorset councils and others, encouraging its use.

Once the vision is influencing a spread of decisions affecting the town, this group may be redundant.
